Winter whimsical with a sophisticated modern spin was the theme of Lauren and Garrett’s cozy Portland, Oregon wedding. This sweet couple experienced unimaginable and unexpected life circumstances during what should have been a blissful and joyous season of life, their engagement. Though heart wrenching, Lauren and Garrett allowed these events to be thoughtful focal points throughout their planning process and wedding day design. The result was a magnificently beautiful wedding celebration, centered on details that honored the legacy of loved ones, and the intentional focus of cultivating a wonderfully fine marriage.
The day following Garrett’s proposal to Lauren, her Grandmother, Nana, presented Lauren with a beautiful garter and pearl necklace to wear on her wedding day. Sweet Nana shared that both the necklace and garter had been passed down through their generations, and worn by both Nana and Lauren’s mother. Lauren was overwhelmed with joy at the meaningful gift, and honored that Nana wanted her to be included in the family legacy.
Lauren and Garrett knew they had a narrow window of time to set their wedding date, due to the difficulties of getting leave approved from the pilot training Garrett was accepted to. After much consideration, they selected a holiday season winter date, in hopes Garrett would have more time off from training. Lauren and Garrett were inspired to craft a warm and sophisticated winter wedding, complete with classic tuxedos and dusty miller floral arrangements. To top off the look, they scattered white birch tress adorned with twinkle lights throughout their reception venue, Gallery 903. What a delight!
Incorporating age-old traditions and details that honored the legacy of their families, was deeply important to Lauren and Garrett during their wedding planning process. To honor Garrett’s commitment to the military, they included the traditional saber arch, which saluted them as they walked down the aisle during their ceremony.
Sadly, one very important man in Lauren and Garrett’s life was unable to witness their lovely day. Garrett’s father was unexpectedly and suddenly diagnosed with lung cancer in the spring. He passed away soon after, just a few short months before their wedding. Lauren and Garrett’s hearts were shattered, and suddenly their wedding planning efforts were shifted to ensure that the legacy of his beloved father was honored throughout their wedding day. Lauren and Garrett lit a candle in his father’s memory during their ceremony, and shared heartfelt memories with their guests during the toasts at their reception, a tribute that moved everyone to tears.
